This historic building, Sooke's first police station, was built in 1946 for the British Columbia Provincial Police (BCPP). Constable A. Quinn, BCPP, became the first police officer in Sooke, operating out of his home until the detachment facility was built at 2050 Drennan Street. While one side of the building housed the Courthouse & jail, the other side was built as accomodations for the commanding officer and his family. The BCPP integrated with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in 1950 at which time they took over the building. Constable Matheson lived in the home portion from 1948 to 1951. In 1973 Sgt. J.Triano & family vacated the home and the expanding force took over the whole building. The garage was converted to a holding area for evidence.
Sheila Beech purchased the building from the Provincial Government in 1993 and commenced converting the offices back into living accomodations. The original station offices were converted to her gallery showroom for the fibre art she creates on the premises. In 1996 Sheila expanded again by transforming the gallery into a Bed & Breakfast suite and the garage into "Exhibit Room III" Gallery Shoppe.
